Marine Digital report: Results of 2021 year

2021, despite the continuation of the Covid restrictions, was very productive for Marine Digital when you look at the development of a startup. Early 2021 Marine Digital team has passed the important milestones of product pivot and further prototype development, HQ establishment in Northern Germany region, and finally the pre-seed round of 600 000 EUR closure. With the additional support of Maritime Cluster Northern Germany, Transmartech and Gateway49, our core team continued the synchronization with the local ecosystem of northern Germany and the state of Schleswig-Holstein. In February 2021 KI Transfer Hub (WTSH, Kiel) proposed we start a dialog with several scientists related to AI development in the marine sector.

Early 2021 Marine Digital team has passed the important milestones of product pivot and further prototype development, HQ establishment in Northern Germany region, and finally the pre-seed round of 600 000 EUR closure

Finally, in March 2021, we closed the round to launch the RnD cycle of IoT and AI algorithms and further the establishment of manufacturing in Northern Germany.

In the process of product development in the Summer of 2021, we carried out customer development with 10 potential clients and We understood how to get basic information about the voyage from the ship, we integrated it with satellite data and were able to build a route taking into account the ENC restrictions. So we developed the alpha version of Marine Digital noon report as a part of Weather routing and voyage optimization system - SaaS solution for shipping companies, shipowners and freight forwarders that need to know the current status of the voyage to predict the time of arrival of the ship with high accuracy.

On the basis of it, we formed 4 solutions that are suitable for charterers, shipowners and fleet managers of various types of vessels.

Weather routing and voyage optimization for managing ETA

The Marine Digital solutions will allow the fleet managers & vessel owners to track the movement of all ships under control and predict the time of arrival of the ship at the pilot station with high accuracy.

Real time monitoring of vessel performance

In Marine Digital, we are solving every problem that may occur during vessel performance monitoring. This includes not only data gathering from different vessels, but also processing and interpretation of the received data, creation of convenient reports.

Reduction in fuel consumption and GHG emissions

By applying modern artificial intelligence technologies, processing big data by collecting data from various sensors on the ship in real-time, the Fuel Optimization System offers the best routes and recommendations for speed, maneuvering, etc This solution optimizes the voyage of the vessel in order to reduce GHG emissions into the atmosphere.

Predictive maintenance of equipment onboard

The hardware equipment installed onboard the ship and aggregating all the necessary data from telemetry makes it possible to predict with high accuracy the potential breakdown on the ship and prescribe maintenance events.

In September 2021, we made very good progress in pipeline generation and media coverage. A chain of experiments leads us to a good marketing strategy. We have up to 1000 visitors per day on our website, 17K + visitors and 170+ requests on site last month, over 2300 active contacts in our CRM, and quite a high conversion rate with zero costs for traffic and ads.

And the most inspiring news we had in December 2021: Frank Coles, the former CEO of Transas (Acquired by Wartsila) joins Marine Digital team as strategic advisor to accelerate the startup development of the software technology focused on vessel data transparency and industry climate change mitigation targets.

At the moment we are getting ready for worldwide mass-market scaling, which will lead to several adjustments to our operating model. To put it simply, we plan to go with a lower margin on a higher scale.
